Creating a new assays using other assays or assay templates

A lab often runs similar assays; part of the information of a new assay can be captured from an existing one. LabID allows for cloning existing assays, which avoids having to start from scratch.

To streamline certain experiments, one can create an assay template which purpose is to be used for creating new assays that use the same information and parameters. When an assay is very similar to another existing assay, the existing assay can be used as a template.

Templates

Assay templates in LabID are a standard assays in the template state. They are "real" assays saved within the system (with their own UUID), however they're not meant to be directly connected samples and datasets, but to be used as a base when creating new assays.

Use templates

When registering datasets from the dataset loader, a template assay can be selected on the first page.

When registering raw data, an assay type has to be selected when entering the dataset loader. At this moment an assay template can be selected as a base for the assay that will be created and linked to the datasets. If no template is available, an existing similar assay can be used in place of a template.

Cloning

Alternatively, an assay can be clone from it's detail page to create a new similar assay
