Batch Operations

While LabID allows you to manage items individually through detail views, many situations require working with multiple records simultaneously. Batch operations provide powerful tools to modify, export, or import multiple items at once. Batch operations are either performed through the web interface by selecting multiple items, or by using spreadsheets tables (.xlsx).

Tip

While batch edition through the user interface targets a single property (e.g. changing the reponsible person for multiple items), multiple properties can be modified at once using a spreadsheets.

Using spreadsheets

When using spreadsheets , a file is first downloaded from LabID. The file is then modified locally and uploaded back to LabID.

Available Operations

  • Import: Add new items in a single collection using a spreadsheet template.
  • Edit: Update properties or annotations.
  • Share (Modify permissions)
  • Export
  • Delete

Selecting Items in List Views

To perform batch operations via the web interface, you'll first need to select the target items in the list view. This is done by checking the checkboxes next to the items you want to include in the operation.

Selecting items and performing batch operations

When items are selected, the batch operation toolbar displays the possible actions.

  • Edit.
  • Share (Edit permissions).
  • Delete.

Batch edition is limited to currently selected items

Currently, via web interface, it is only possible to perform a batch operation on currently selected items. Since the maximum number of item that can be displayed in a list view is limited to 500, it is only possible to perform batch operations on a maximum of 500 items at once. To target more than 500 items, you need to use the spreadsheet method.

Using templates

On the left of the list batch operations controls, you can find two dropdown buttons to download and upload templates.

Batch edition with spreadsheet cannot be used to edit certain item properties

Using template, certain attributes cannot be edited. This is for example the case of permissions. To edit such attributes, you need to use the web interface.
