Visual editor

LabID features TinyMCE which adds a «what-you-see-is-what-you-get» html editor for online lab notebook entries edition. This enables user to edit the note text similarly as they would do on Open/Libre Office or Microsoft Word.

TinyMCE WYSIWYG editor in LabID

If you spot a missing feature, contact us and let us know what you want to achieve. We will look into existing TinyMCE plugins or develop a custom solution for LabID

A4 vs full width

The view page simulates an A4 display and hints you at how your document will look like upon e.g. export (PDF). Be aware that there is no perfect way to deal with e.g. very large tables. Please make sure tables display correctly on the view page to avoid surprises upon export/printing.

Embedding pictures

To embed an image, use our custom image embedding plugin for TinyMCE. Click the embed image plugin icon

Embed image plugin icon

Embedding an image technically means to:

  1. Upload it as an attachment
  2. Embed it in the text description

Upon embedding the image in text, the attachment is duplicated copied and the filename is timestamped. This is to ensure the image is not modified further.

TinyMCE editor with an embedded image

Images that are removed from the text are not automatically removed from the attachments list. When an image stopped being used in the text - and only then! - it may be manually removed. Do not remove an embedded image from the attachment panel if it is used in the text because it will break the html link and the image will stop being displayed in the text

Cross referencing

When writing a lab note, you can use the dedicated link plugin to reference any item in the system.
